We work in Secaucus constantly
Secaucus is two land uses that barely touch. Something close to nine tenths of the town's area sits under Meadowlands zoning and is given over to distribution, freight and commercial buildings, while the residential part is a compact, largely postwar core with a median build year around 1979 and four in ten homes sitting in buildings of ten units or more. That is a different housing profile from the older boroughs to the west and it produces a different call list. Far less pre-war mortise hardware, far more modern bored locks, a lot of condominium and rental management, and then the warehouses, which are their own trade altogether.
A distribution building has fewer doors than a three-family and every one of them is load-bearing on the operation. There is a personnel door on the dock face, an office entry at the other end of the building, a fire exit that has to release under a push and cannot be chained, and interior doors onto server rooms, cages, returns and wherever small high-value stock is held. The hardware is commercial grade because it cycles constantly: closers, exit devices, electric strikes and mortise locks in hollow metal frames. It fails from use rather than from age. When a dock personnel door stops latching, the building stands open all night and nobody notices until morning.
The problem nobody budgets for is key control. Warehouse and logistics headcount moves constantly, seasonal peaks bring people in for eight weeks at a time, and contracts change hands and take the outgoing operator's keys with them. Within a few years a building has an unknown number of keys in circulation and no record of who holds what. The answer is not a new lock on every door. It is a proper master key schedule on a restricted keyway, so blanks can only be cut by an authorised supplier and a leaver's key can actually be accounted for. That is a design job first and a hardware job second, and it wants doing before the morning you need it.
Most warehouses here have an office bolted onto the front of them, and the two halves want opposite things. The office wants a door that opens at eight, secures at six and lets a handful of people through on a credential rather than a key. The floor wants hardware that survives being struck by a pallet truck. Treating the building as one system with one schedule and different hardware grades either side of that line is cheaper than treating it as two unrelated buildings, which is how it usually ends up. On the residential side the work is unit rekeys, condominium and rental turnover and building entry doors, and because we are through Secaucus constantly a single unit is still worth the call-out.

We work Secaucus constantly. Arrival windows here are short and small jobs are worth doing, so it is not a wasted call-out for one lock. Call rather than book online if it is urgent — the phone is faster.

Secaucus questions
We have no idea how many keys exist for our building. Where do we start?
With a survey rather than a purchase. We walk every opening, record what cylinder is in it and what currently operates it, then design a schedule: who needs to reach what, and how few keys that can be done with. The rebuild after that is normally cylinders rather than whole locks, on a restricted keyway so future copies have to come through an authorised channel. You get a written schedule you can hand to a new facilities manager, which is the part that stops the problem recurring.
Can this be done without stopping the operation?
Usually, if it is planned. We take doors in sequence rather than all at once, do the dock and floor openings around shift changes and leave the office side for normal hours. Nothing has to come off its frame for long. What we cannot do is rekey a building around people who need to keep walking through it without deciding in advance who gets which key, so the schedule has to be signed off before we start turning cylinders rather than during.
Our fire exit gets chained at the end of the shift. Is that a problem?
It is, and we will tell you so rather than quietly working around it. An exit device has to release under a single push from the inside, and chaining it defeats the one thing it exists to do. If the exit is being chained because it is being propped or misused, the fix is an alarmed device, a delayed egress unit where that is permitted, or a door position sensor that tells somebody it is open. All of those are legitimate. The chain is not.
How much does it cost to rekey a house in Secaucus?
Up to six cylinders — the usual three-door house — is $695 as the Rekey & Secure package, which includes the mobile service charge, keying every door alike, five keys cut and tested on site, and every deadbolt checked. Beyond six cylinders it is $55 each with a working key.
Is there a minimum charge?
$250. That is the mobile service charge and it is the floor on any residential or commercial visit in Secaucus. Estimates by text, photo or video are free.
Do you charge extra after hours in Secaucus?
After 5 PM the mobile service charge is $350 and it is collected before a locksmith is dispatched. Everything else is priced the same. After-hours dispatch is subject to technician availability.
Can I book online rather than calling?
Yes, for everything except car keys and active lockouts. Answer three questions about your doors, see a real price, pick a time. Leaving the deposit online takes $25 off.
Are you licensed to work in Secaucus?
Yes. New Jersey Locksmith Business License Number 34LX00020300, bonded and insured through State Farm, and Google Guaranteed. The licence number appears at the bottom of every page of this site, on our invoices and on our trucks, as New Jersey requires.
How soon can you get to Secaucus?
