Most locks fail at the cylinder, not the bolt
People shop for deadbolts by looking at the bolt — how thick it is, how far it throws. That is rarely where a door gets beaten. A standard pin cylinder can be picked or bumped in under a minute by someone who watched a video about it and spent thirty dollars on tools, and the bolt behind it never gets tested.
The other half of the problem is quieter. Any hardware store will copy a standard key for anyone holding it. Every contractor, cleaner, tenant and house-sitter who has ever had your key could have made one, and you would have no way of knowing.
A Mul-T-Lock cylinder resists picking and drilling, and its key is patented — it can only be duplicated by an authorised locksmith working from a card on file. That is the difference between a lock that stops an opportunist and a lock that stops someone who came prepared.

The adjustable backset, and why we mention something this boring
The distance from the edge of your door to the centre of the bore is called the backset, and in American houses it is either 2⅜ inches or 2¾. You cannot tell which by looking.
Mul-T-Lock's deadbolt adjusts to either. Most competing high-security deadbolts do not — you have to know the backset before you order, which means measuring, ordering, and coming back. We carry the one that fits your door whichever it turns out to be, because a second trip is a bad outcome for everyone.
That is the kind of thing a locksmith knows and a website usually will not tell you. It is also the honest reason we fit what we fit.
Where to put one
Not everywhere. The door worth upgrading is usually the one nobody can see — a back door behind a fence, a side entry off a driveway, a basement door. Someone working on a front door under a street light is exposed. Someone working on your back door is not.
Put a high-security deadbolt there, rekey the rest, and you have spent your money where it actually changes the outcome.

How much is a Mul-T-Lock deadbolt installed?
$825 on a standalone visit, which includes the lock, the installation and the mobile service charge. Add a second one while we are already at your door and it is $575.
What actually makes a high-security lock different?
Two things. The cylinder resists picking and drilling, which a standard cylinder does not. And the key is patented, so it can only be duplicated by an authorised locksmith with your card on file — not by a machine in the corner of a hardware store.
Can someone really pick a normal deadbolt?
A standard pin cylinder can be picked or bumped by someone who watched a video about it and bought thirty dollars of tools. That is not a scare story, it is why the whole high-security category exists. Most deadbolts fail at the cylinder, not at the bolt.
Who has my key on file?
We do. Mul-T-Lock keys are cut against a card held by the authorised dealer. If you want another copy, it comes from us, and it is recorded. If a contractor asks a hardware store to copy it, they cannot.
Why do you fit Mul-T-Lock rather than other high-security brands?
A practical reason. Mul-T-Lock's deadbolt has an adjustable backset, so it fits your door correctly whether the bore sits at 2⅜ inches or 2¾. Other high-security deadbolts require knowing the backset before ordering, which means a second trip when the measurement turns out to be the other one. We would rather carry a lock that fits either way.
Do I need it on every door?
No, and we would not sell it that way. Most people put a high-security deadbolt on the one door that is genuinely exposed — a back door out of sight of the street, a side door behind a fence — and keep standard hardware, rekeyed, on the rest.
Can it be keyed alike with my other locks?
Not to a standard key, no — the whole point is that the keyway is restricted. What we can do is give you one high-security key for the doors that have it and one standard key for the rest, and tell you plainly which is which.
Do you carry other high-security brands?
We can order alternatives through a distributor a few minutes from the shop if you have a specific reason to want one. Ask, and we will get it. Mul-T-Lock is what we stock and what we fit by default.
