About Major Key Locksmith
Family-run, second-generation locksmith, trading as Major Key since 2017. We run out of Lyndhurst and cover six North Jersey counties.

“It’s just a doorknob”
We hear that sentence a lot, and it tells us everything.
It is just a doorknob. It is just a lock. It is just a key. When someone says it’s just, what they mean is that they do not think the thing matters — and if the thing does not matter, then neither does the person doing it properly.
We are working on the just. The deadbolt that only throws halfway into a frame that moved two winters ago. The cylinder that any teenager with a video and thirty dollars of tools can open. The five keys to your house that are in five people's kitchen drawers and you do not know whose. None of that is just anything. It is the difference between a door that is closed and a door that is locked.
People choose us over a cheaper locksmith for one reason, and they tell us what it is: not price, but that we explained it, took our time, and treated the job as though it mattered. That is the entire business.
A family trade
This trade came down through the family. Major Key was founded in 2017, but the knowledge behind it is a lot older than that — which mostly shows up in the unglamorous places. Knowing which hardware is worth saving. Knowing that a door which will not close is a hinge problem and not a lock problem. Knowing when to talk a customer out of buying something.

Timothy Creighton — founder. The truck is the workshop.
Meet Timothy Creighton
Timothy Creighton founded Major Key Locksmith and is the licensed locksmith behind it, with decades of hands-on experience in the trade. He started learning at his father’s side as a child and has since built Major Key into a North Jersey locksmith company serving homeowners, businesses, property managers and organisations across the region.
He works across residential, commercial, automotive and high-security locksmithing, with particular depth in complex door hardware, access control, master key systems, automotive key programming, and security upgrades for homes and businesses.
His approach is simple: give people an expert answer, explain it clearly, charge fairly, and treat every customer and every property with integrity.
As a husband, father, business owner and active member of his church community, Timothy believes the way a business treats people matters as much as the work itself. Major Key was built around that — old-school craftsmanship and accountability, with modern tools, current security products and service that actually turns up.
When he is not with customers or building out new systems for the company, his focus is his family, his church, and making Major Key a place where the team can give someone a good experience from the first phone call to the finished job.
What we are actually good at
- Rekeying. Fast, cheap for you, and the right answer far more often than replacement. We would rather rekey your existing lock than sell you a new one.
- Keyless entry. More than a hundred smart deadbolts fitted across North Jersey. The MK-1 is backed by our own two-year guarantee on the lock rather than a manufacturer's call centre.
- The awkward doors. European-style multipoint hardware, older mortise lock bodies, and the doors on nice houses that most locksmiths quote as a full replacement because servicing them is harder.
- Commercial hardware nobody advertises. Continuous hinges, electric strikes and the frame metalwork they need, exit devices, door closers. Access control companies subcontract this to us because they would rather run wire.

What people actually say
Those are real, and they are quoted exactly as written — but they are still five we chose. Read them where they live — unedited, in whatever order Google puts them, including any we would rather you skipped.
400+ reviews is not a handful of friends. It is nine years of doors.
