Fleet & commercial vehicle keys

Work vans, box trucks and tractors, keyed at your yard. Purchase orders, unit numbers on every invoice, NET 15 once we have worked together twice, and a locksmith who answers the phone at six on a Friday.

These are typical figures, not a fixed price list. Fleet keys work the way car keys do — the real number depends on the make, the model, the year and the key technology, and on a mixed fleet it can vary from one unit to the next parked beside it.

Every figure below comes from work we have actually done and invoiced, so they are a fair guide rather than a lowball. What moves them is the vehicle: newer transponder units carry manufacturer programming tokens, software licences and OEM blanks that we pay for per job, and those are quoted separately once we know what we are looking at.

You get a confirmed price before any work starts, not after. Send us the year, make, model and unit count and we will put a real number in writing. If it turns out to be more than the guide, you hear it while the tools are still in the truck.

A truck that cannot move is the actual cost

The key is not the expensive part. The expensive part is the vehicle sitting in a yard with a route on it.

The dealer route means towing a vehicle that cannot be driven, waiting days for a key to be ordered and cut, and doing it inside their service hours behind whatever backlog they already have. We come to the yard and it goes back into service the same day.

Getting started — the site visit

Fleet Key Service — site visit · $250

We come to your yard, identify the vehicles, confirm what is needed and quote on the spot. The $250 covers the visit and applies against the job if you proceed the same day. Keys, programming and hardware are quoted after inspection. Purchase orders and NET 15 terms after two completed jobs.

Everything else in the fleet line is quoted rather than booked, because a truck with a damaged ignition and a truck with a working spare are not the same job and pretending otherwise wastes your morning and ours.

The fleet key program

The pattern we see over and over: a fleet has no spares, loses a key, and pays origination prices for a job that should have been a key cut from a code.

Enrol a vehicle once and it gets two cut, tagged and tested spare keys, logged against its unit number in a register you keep and we keep. After that, a replacement key for any enrolled vehicle is a phone call and a flat price — no origination charge, no decoding, no downtime.

Fleet key programPrice
Enrolment — mechanical truck two spares, tagged and logged $95 per vehicle, once
Enrolment — transponder van two spares, tagged and logged $275 per vehicle, once
Priority fleet response two-hour target, no after-hours surcharge, NET 15, one key-cut day a year $600 per year
Fleet key audit identify, cut, tag and log an existing fleet $35 per vehicle
On-site key cut day up to 4 hours $850 per half day

What the price includes:

  • Coming to your yard
  • Identifying the vehicle and confirming what the job actually is
  • Cutting, programming and testing at the vehicle
  • Tagging keys to unit numbers and recording them on the invoice
  • An itemised invoice carrying your PO number

What costs extra, and how much:

  • Keys, programming, tokens and hardware — quoted after inspection
  • After 5 PM and weekend response — $350 rather than $250
  • Response to a vehicle away from your yard — quoted on the call

Prices shown are in effect from August 2026 and remain in effect until updated on this page. Final price is confirmed with you before any work begins. Fleet work is quoted, not booked online. The only bookable fleet product is the site visit.

Those are real, and they are quoted exactly as written — but they are still five we chose. Read them where they live — unedited, in whatever order Google puts them, including any we would rather you skipped.

400+ reviews is not a handful of friends. It is nine years of doors.

Fleets we already key

This is not a new line of work we are trying out. Ground-support vehicles at Newark Liberty for United Airlines across five years and sixty-one work orders. Promaster fleets for U-Haul. Three hundred and seventy-five spare keys cut in a single visit for Sysco. Transit vans for PSE&G.

Also Penske, NJ Transit, MAACO, RK Environmental Services, IEW Construction Group and American Dream.

Fleet questions

Can a locksmith really make a key for a work truck?

Yes, and for most makes we can do it at your yard rather than yours going anywhere. Class 4 to 8 trucks are largely mechanical, which makes them faster than a modern car. Commercial vans are transponder vehicles and take longer, but they are still done on site.

How much does a fleet key cost?

It depends on the vehicle class and whether any working key exists. The tables on this page and the two below give real numbers rather than a range that spans an order of magnitude.

Do you come to our yard?

That is the entire point. A truck that cannot move is a truck that is not earning. We come to where it is parked.

Do you accept purchase orders and put unit numbers on invoices?

Yes to both, and we have been doing it for years — nine years of invoices carry PO numbers and unit references. NET 15 opens after two completed jobs; the first is card on delivery.

What is a key register and why would we want one?

A record of every vehicle in your fleet against its key codes and its spares, tagged to the unit number. You hold a copy and we hold a copy. It means the next lost key is a phone call and a flat price rather than a decoding job and a half-day of downtime.

Are you available outside business hours?

24/7. Most fleet locksmiths in this area close at half past four on a Friday. A key lost at six on a Friday evening should not cost you until Monday.
