We work in North Arlington constantly
North Arlington is small: about two and a half square miles, and a cemetery accounts for close to an eighth of that. What is left is compressed. A slope above the Passaic carrying roughly seven thousand dwellings, mostly older single and two-family houses on narrow lots, in a borough you can drive across in about five minutes. For a locksmith the practical effect is that nothing here is far from anything else. We are a neighbour rather than a visitor, we are in the borough constantly, and that is the reason a one-lock job in North Arlington gets done this week rather than deferred until we happen to be passing with a gap in the diary.
A large share of that housing is not owner-occupied, and a large share of it is owned in twos and threes. Somebody lives in half a two-family and lets the other half, or holds three buildings within a mile of each other and manages them personally on evenings and weekends. That owner does not want three separate call-outs. Tell us up front how many units and how many buildings, and we will build the visit around it: one trip, several rekeys, one mobile service charge across the lot rather than one attached to each address. It is the single easiest way to make this work inexpensive, and it only works if you plan it rather than ringing us three times in a month.
At a turnover the honest list is short. The tenant's own entry door, the shared street door if that tenant held a key to it, their mailbox, and the basement or utility door if they could reach it. That is normally the whole of it. We are frequently asked to replace everything on a building and we will usually argue against it, because swapping hardware that works costs money and gains nothing that rekeying the existing cylinder does not already achieve. The old key stops working either way. Where we do push for replacement is a mailbox bank whose cylinders no longer hold, and any exterior door that is only staying shut because the frame has swollen against it.
Ridge Road is the borough's commercial spine and it is almost entirely small independent premises, much of it shops with flats above them. That is one building carrying two completely different sets of door problems. The shop below wants a glass storefront door, a closer set properly, an exit device that latches every time and a cylinder that staff can be given and taken off again when they leave. The flats above want a street door, a stair door and separate unit doors, and the owner usually wants one key that reaches the common parts without reaching anybody's home. That is a master key design question rather than a hardware question, and it is worth doing once, properly.
We work North Arlington constantly. Arrival windows here are short and small jobs are worth doing, so it is not a wasted call-out for one lock. Call rather than book online if it is urgent — the phone is faster.

North Arlington questions
I own three buildings in the borough. Can they be done in one visit?
Yes, and that is how you should do it. Give us the addresses, the number of units at each and roughly how many cylinders per unit door, and we will schedule them as one job. There is one mobile service charge across the visit however many units we get through, not one per address. What slows it down is access, so line up whoever holds the keys before the day. Vacant units are quicker than occupied ones because we are not waiting for anybody to be home.
Can I change the lock on my building's shared front door myself?
If you own the building, yes. If you are a tenant, no, and we will say so on the phone. The mailbox bank is the one that surprises people: the outer access door on a multi-unit bank is normally under the postal carrier's lock rather than yours, while the individual tenant compartments are yours to rekey. We will do the compartments and tell you plainly which part is not ours or yours to touch, rather than turning up and discovering it in front of you.
Our shop door only latches if you pull it hard. Do we need a new lock?
Usually not. Nine times out of ten that is alignment rather than the lock. A storefront frame moves with the weather and with years of being pushed, the closer loses its final check, and the latch stops meeting the strike squarely. Adjusting the closer, resetting the strike and sometimes shimming the hinge side fixes it for a fraction of the cost of new hardware. If we look at it and the lock body genuinely has failed we will show you why before replacing anything.
How much does it cost to rekey a house in North Arlington?
Up to six cylinders — the usual three-door house — is $695 as the Rekey & Secure package, which includes the mobile service charge, keying every door alike, five keys cut and tested on site, and every deadbolt checked. Beyond six cylinders it is $55 each with a working key.
Is there a minimum charge?
$250. That is the mobile service charge and it is the floor on any residential or commercial visit in North Arlington. Estimates by text, photo or video are free.
Do you charge extra after hours in North Arlington?
After 5 PM the mobile service charge is $350 and it is collected before a locksmith is dispatched. Everything else is priced the same. After-hours dispatch is subject to technician availability.
Can I book online rather than calling?
Yes, for everything except car keys and active lockouts. Answer three questions about your doors, see a real price, pick a time. Leaving the deposit online takes $25 off.
Are you licensed to work in North Arlington?
Yes. New Jersey Locksmith Business License Number 34LX00020300, bonded and insured through State Farm, and Google Guaranteed. The licence number appears at the bottom of every page of this site, on our invoices and on our trucks, as New Jersey requires.
How soon can you get to North Arlington?
Emergencies are usually within the hour. We run technicians across the coverage area rather than sending everything out from one place, so North Arlington is covered around the clock. We give a realistic arrival window on the phone rather than an optimistic one.
