Our addition has its own key. Can it be matched to the rest of the house?
Almost always, and there is no charge for the matching itself. Take your house key and try it in the addition's cylinder. If it goes in but will not turn, the two share a keyway and we rekey them alike on the spot. If it will not enter at all, that lock has to change, and we key the replacement to everything else at no extra cost. Either way you finish with one key for one house, which is what should have happened when the extension was signed off.
Can a multipoint patio or French door be repaired instead of replaced?
Yes. A multipoint is a mechanism rather than a lock: a gearbox driven by the handle, throwing hooks or bolts into the frame at several heights. They fail in predictable places, usually the gearbox, the handle spindle, or a panel that has dropped and put the door out of square. All of those are repairable without replacing the door, which is what most of the trade quotes. Parts are often European and have to be identified from a stamp on the door edge, so photographs first will save a visit.
How long does a whole-house rekey take on a Livingston split?
